Chives & Lupine

It's been so chilly here; our summer has really been more like spring. Grass is just coming out of dormancy and we're starting to see luscious green and growth again. One of our favorite perennials is chives --so easy to grow. They're one of the first things to grow after the snow leaves. They self-sow. And they're wonderful on top of casseroles or baked potatoes for a light taste of onion.
Ours flower early, but we pluck the buds off amongst the growing chives to seed and continue to flourish. However, this time Pumpkin got to the garden first! He's my lil flower boy and he was out there pulling up the tall stalks of flowered chives, along with my Sweetie's favorite flower, lupine. Mind you, these are some of our *first* colors in our garden and to see it pulled up so quickly.... well, hmm. He handed me this bunch, and I gotta tell you, it smells wonderful. Who would've guessed. All these years I've only caught the scent of onion, but really, the flower has a lovely delicate jasmine-y tone. So now this sweet, wild bouquet is set on our kitchen farm table, reminding us that flowers and onions, an unlikely pair, are beautiful in a natural, free-flowing way.
