Yarn

Yesterday, the new Lendrum spinning wheel that my Sweetie got me arrived! I got it from a shop called Village Spinning & Weaving, in Solvang, California. Customer service was excellent. John & Marsha were a delight to work with.

I named her Lena because she leans and it's my Mom's & Nana's name, Anne, scrambled in there. Both my wheel & my folks are from Canada, it's a fun way of joining it all together, eh ;-)

Once the boys were in bed, I got out some roving to start spinning. Oh boy --does it look easier than it really is! Here's a picture of about 3 hours of spinning and threading and re-threading the bobbin and retying on the leader. Uh. yeah. what a mess. No way did it look like yarn, lol.

So, today, I went to see Pam at our local fiber shop, All Things Wild & Wooly, and she hooked me up with some wonderful Brown Sheep fine wool roving

Pam took the time to explain about pre-drafting and before you knew it, I was spinning!! Trying to coordinate both the feet and the two hands, was like trying to pat your tummy and rub your head at the same time --something that took me a bit of coordination. But, believe me, it becomes very meditative, yet exciting to see actual results of a bobbin filling up with real yarn. So after a couple of hours, here is the result of a very patient teacher & a new spinner: a skein of lumpy, bumpy *beautiful* yarn. I can't wait to use it! There are 38 yds there of pure gold. Well, okay, wool actually, but what a treasure!

  1. Congrats on the new member of your family! I own a Lendrum too, and bought mine at VS&W as well. Small world, right?
